Want to be an innovator or a follower?

The Weekly with Fred Schebesta #27: Want to be an innovator or a follower?

This is an important question. In every business, there needs to be the ‘followers’ who are incredible at making incremental changes, and the ‘innovators’ who make big leaps.

Both teams are key. You could argue that both are just as valuable as the other. But I submit that every company needs an innovation arm. I have a theory that companies go stale after 7 years. If you don’t have an innovation arm, your edge will get grinded away.

It’s about building a moat around your business that continues to get stronger and stronger over time. That's when you've developed a source of power.

I spoke about this with Friska Wirya in the video above 👆

Who are the followers?

These are the people who love to make incremental improvements. They test and learn, experiment, taking what’s there, and making it slightly better.

Who are the innovators?

They are comfortable with ambiguity, comfortable with making mistakes, comfortable with exploring and being curious. This is the team who takes big risks and big leaps forward.

With Finder, we've made a giant leap forward by moving from a comparison website to an app that connects our members’ bank accounts and automatically compares them. And you can now buy crypto directly in the app (if you’re in Australia.. Launching in other markets soon!).

What team are you in? And more importantly, what team do you want to be on?

Go Live! 10 Principles to Launch a Global Empire

I also spoke about my new book, now available for pre-order! 🤯

Friska asked me why this book? I could have written a book about how to make a million dollars or how to lose weight or how to save money. But I think there are lots of people who have written books like that. And I think there are lots of people who also write the rules of doing things.

Now, I'm a terrible rule breaker. So I'm probably not the best person to write rules. But what I do have - and it took me a lot of soul searching to figure this out - I have some immutable principles that I use to launch every business that I've been involved with.

And I teach those 10 principles in this book. They are applicable to everyone who wants to launch a business or even for ‘intrepreneurs’ who want to start a project inside their organisation.

I realised they were the things that made up my business decisions.

Why Go Live?

I love putting things live on the internet. And I believe if it's not live on the internet it doesn't exist.

That's what this book is about. It's about going live and the 10 principles that are immutable.

Pre-order with Booktopia and they are offering 25% off.

The Fred Schebesta Startup Initiative

I’m also starting a little project to invest in and support other startups. 30% of profits from Schebesta Ventures – including from the sale of this book – will be allocated towards this initiative.

I’ve wanted to start this for a very long time. I am so fired up and can’t wait to help build some incredible business ideas 🚀
